Four Mississippi schools named National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2022

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – On Friday, four Mississippi schools were named as National Blue Ribbons Schools for 2022 by U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.

The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

The Mississippi schools named as National Blue Ribbon Schools were:

Florence Elementary School, Rankin County School DistrictHayes Cooper Center, Cleveland School DistrictPetal High School, Petal School DistrictOak Grove Lower Elementary School, Lamar County School District

“National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as exceptional models for improving student outcomes, closing achievement gaps and implementing effective teaching methods,” said Dr. Kim Benton, state superintendent of education, interim. “I congratulate Mississippi’s 2022 honorees, including all teachers, administrators, and community stakeholders, who collectively invest in students’ overall success.”

She believes his death was covered up. No arrests have been made, and authorities consider it an accident. Man shot while helping with stalled vehicle in Jackson

SUMMARY: A man was shot in Jackson, Mississippi, while attempting to assist a person with a stalled vehicle on State Street at Beasley Road around 4:00 p.m. on November 20. Detective Tommie Brown reported that the victim was working on the vehicle when the suspect approached, questioned him, and then opened fire. The assailant fled the scene in a vehicle. Fortunately, the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Burglars use sledgehammer to break into Jackson business

SUMMARY: Jackson police are investigating a burglary at the Fleetwood gas station on Watkins Drive that occurred between 1:00 a.m. and 1:32 a.m. on November 20. Three suspects used a sledgehammer to break into the store, where they stole tobacco products before fleeing in a silver van. Detective Tommie Brown reported the damage caused by their actions involved breaking holes into the back of the business. Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the crime to contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.
