Apple to pay $95 million to settle lawsuit accusing Siri of eavesdropping
SUMMARY: Apple has agreed to pay $95 million to settle a lawsuit claiming its virtual assistant, Siri, eavesdropped on users without their consent for over a decade. The lawsuit accused Apple of activating Siri to record conversations even without the trigger phrase “Hey, Siri,” with some recordings allegedly shared with advertisers. While Apple maintains it did no wrong, the settlement requires judicial approval and could allow millions of affected consumers, who owned devices from September 2014 to the end of last year, to claim compensation of up to $20 per device. Attorneys may claim up to $29.6 million from the settlement.
