$6,000 being offered as authorities investigate shooting deaths of 14, 20-year-old in West Point

SUMMARY: West Point Police are offering a $5,000 reward, in addition to a $1,000 reward from Crim Stoppers, for information on two shootings that occurred earlier this year, resulting in the deaths of two young men. The first shooting, on January 15th, involved a group of friends in a black SUV being blocked by another vehicle and shot at, killing 14-year-old Ethan Evans and injuring two others. Another shooting occurred later that day, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Xavier Bips. Several arrests have been made, but the investigation is ongoing. Call Crim Stoppers or West Point Police with any information for a $6,000 reward leading to an arrest and conviction.

A total of $6,000 is being offered to those with information regarding two fatal January shootings in West Point.

SUMMARY: Mississippi state Sen. Angela Burks Hill has proposed Senate Bill 2223, aimed at eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the state’s higher education system. The bill would prohibit public institutions from using funds to support DEI offices or personnel and ban diversity training and preferential treatment based on race, sex, or ethnicity. Additionally, schools must report compliance and reallocate funds previously designated for DEI towards merit scholarships and tuition. The bill is under consideration by the Mississippi Senate Universities and Colleges Committee. Another bill, 2515, is also being reviewed, focusing on the efficiency of the public university system.
