Carbon monoxide risks rise in cold weather
SUMMARY: As freezing temperatures and wintry conditions grip much of the US, the Consumer Product Safety Commission warns that carbon monoxide poisoning risks rise during this time. Carbon monoxide, an invisible and odorless gas, can be deadly if not managed properly. The CDC advises installing alarms, inspecting fuel-burning appliances annually, and never using portable generators indoors. The gas poses a higher risk to infants, older adults, and people with heart or breathing issues. Symptoms of poisoning include headache, dizziness, and confusion.
