SUMMARY: At Westport High School, five female students were involved in a fight that escalated after two weeks of tension. When Principal Ginger Cruz attempted to intervene, she was injured and later treated at the hospital, but returned to school the same day. Several school deans helped break up the brawl, which occurred around midday. Parents expressed concern for both the students and staff, highlighting the serious nature of school violence. Law enforcement has stated they will not tolerate such behavior, and the students now face charges, including disorderly conduct and felony battery against a school official.

Five students were charged, and a principal was injured during a fight that broke out at West Port High School in Ocala on Monday, according to the school district.

Published

www.news4jax.com – Jacqueline Lee – 2025-01-22 07:25:00

SUMMARY: Florida is experiencing unusual freezing temperatures and snow, prompting AAA to offer safety advice. To protect homes, residents should remove hoses from exterior faucets, allow faucets to drip, and ensure they know their water shutoff valve location. Frozen pipes can cause significant damage, averaging $11,000 in repairs. For cars, AAA recommends using an ice scraper, checking tire pressure, and avoiding warming the car in enclosed spaces. Drivers should check weather conditions, pack an emergency kit, and maintain a safe distance on icy roads. In emergencies, stay in the car and avoid running the engine to save gas.

SUMMARY: As Donald Trump returns to the White House, China’s relations with countries like Japan, India, and the UK, once strengthened by Biden’s efforts, are improving. While Trump’s approach might challenge U.S. alliances, especially through controversial statements, China sees an opportunity to mend ties and boost economic cooperation. Beijing’s relationship with Japan and India, though improving, faces challenges, particularly over territorial disputes. Meanwhile, European nations like the UK and France are cautiously engaging with China. Trump’s rhetoric has caused unease, but some see it as a chance to recalibrate diplomatic strategies with China, despite differences over global leadership.

www.news4jax.com – David Bauder, Associated Press – 2025-01-21 19:12:00

SUMMARY: President Donald Trump’s second inauguration attracted 24.6 million TV viewers, the smallest audience since Barack Obama’s second inauguration in 2013. Viewership was lower compared to Trump’s first inauguration (30.6 million) and Joe Biden’s 2021 inauguration (33.8 million). Inauguration coverage varied in length, with the extended broadcast likely lowering the average viewership as audiences tuned out over time. Fox News led with 10.3 million viewers during Trump’s swearing-in and speech, while other networks like ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and MSNBC had significantly fewer viewers. In contrast, Biden’s 2021 inauguration saw stronger viewership on CNN and MSNBC compared to Fox News.
