3 dead, 8 injured in trail ride shooting in Holmes County

SUMMARY: A mass shooting during a trail ride in Holmes County has left three people dead and eight others injured. The incident occurred around midnight near North Highway 17, shortly after a local homecoming event. Holmes County Sheriff Willie March reported that the shooter opened fire into the crowd following an altercation between two young men. The victims have been identified as 25-year-old Martell Gibson, 19-year-old Shandra Chestnut, and 19-year-old John Jenkins. Several injured individuals were airlifted to hospitals. Investigators believe the suspect used a weapon equipped with a switch, and no suspects are currently in custody. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is involved.
