2nd arrest made after vehicle shot at on Highway 6 in Tupelo
SUMMARY: Tupelo police have made a second arrest related to a shooting incident involving moving cars on the new Highway 6. The suspect, Theat Sims of Tupelo, is charged with shooting into a motor vehicle. Last Tuesday, someone fired shots from a Dodge Challenger while passing another car near the South Thomas Street exit, hitting a tire.
Another man is in custody after a vehicle was shot at in Tupelo.

Athletes ready for US Junior Olympics event in their hometown
SUMMARY: The USA Track and Field Junior Olympics begins tomorrow in Jackson, with over 1,500 athletes from four southern states participating. Bradley Davis reported from Hughes Field, where local athletes from the Mississippi Track Stars are preparing despite the stifling heat. Coach Alan Senegal emphasized the importance of programs like Mississippi Track Stars, given that local schools often lack summer track programs. Competing in their hometown offers young athletes the chance to qualify for nationals. The four-day event will also include field events at Millsaps College. The top five in each event will advance to nationals later this month.
The Metro area will be well represented this week during the Region 6 USA Track and Field Junior Olympics. Events will be held at Hughes Field and Millsaps College and local athletes are excited to compete in their hometown amongst the best in the Southeast.

Mental evaluation approved for Rankin County teen accused of killing mother
SUMMARY: A judge has permitted county prosecutors to conduct a mental evaluation on Carly Craig, a teen accused of murdering her mother and injuring her stepfather. Craig pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and attempted murder earlier this year. Her trial is set to begin in September, following a recent court hearing where the evaluation order was issued.
