28 AGs call on U.S. Supreme Court to intervene in Mexico gun violence case | National

SUMMARY: A coalition of 28 state attorneys general has requested the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene in a legal case where Mexico blames U.S. gun manufacturers for cartel-related violence. The lawsuit, initially dismissed by a federal judge, was appealed by Mexico to the First Circuit, which sided with Mexico based on a broad interpretation of “proximate causation” under the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. The AGs argue that American manufacturers cannot be held responsible for cartel violence, which is linked to Mexican government policy. They contend Mexico’s claims lack legal basis and call for the reversal of the First Circuit’s ruling.

Rain returns Sunday night
