250+ students from Holy Cross High School volunteer for annual 'Great Day of Giving'
SUMMARY: Holy Cross held its 11th Annual Great Day of Service, benefiting 24 organizations, including the Ronald McDonald House. Students learned empathy through hands-on service, making treats and snack bags for families with hospitalized children. Senior Kelsey Ellis enjoyed the experience, highlighting that service can be fun and impactful. The Ronald McDonald House, which offers free meals and temporary housing, relies heavily on volunteers. Another group sorted over 400 pounds of donated shoes for Water Step, a nonprofit focused on providing clean drinking water globally. This experience aimed to connect classroom lessons with real-life applications, fostering community engagement among students.
Holy Cross High School students spent Thursday volunteering across Louisville.

Gov. Beshear lays out plan after calling on Letcher Co. Sheriff to resign
SUMMARY: Sheriff Mickey Stein faces a deadline tomorrow to resign before Governor Basher initiates the removal process, following Stein’s first-degree murder charge in the shooting death of Judge Kevin Mullins. The power to appoint a new sheriff would go to the County Judge Executive. If Stein does not resign, the removal process could take up to six months and is not a criminal trial, but rather an assessment of whether removal is warranted. Meanwhile, Governor Basher is collaborating with the Chief Justice to form a panel recommending three candidates to replace Judge Mullins.
Gov. Beshear said on Thursday that if Stines does not resign, the governor does have the power to start a removal process.

'Moore Safe Nights' program launches, honoring work of late ASL interpreter
SUMMARY: A new initiative called the More Safe Nights program is enhancing severe weather alerts for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing in Kentucky. Developed by the Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and the Division of Emergency Management, the program honors the late ASL interpreter Virginia Moore. It provides specialized weather radios equipped with a pillow shaker and strobe light, allowing users to receive alerts through vibrations and visual cues. Initially, 700 radios are available for free on a first-come, first-serve basis to those with hearing loss. The initiative aims to raise more funding after distribution.
โThis was her passion, and I’m glad that her memory is still alive as she continues to serve,โ Moore’s widow Row Holloway shared tearfully at the lectern.
