23 year old has been arrested 8 times for stalking college girls
SUMMARY: A 23-year-old man, Ian Smith, who served time for threatening Southern Methodist University (SMU) students, was arrested for harassment after reportedly contacting a female student via social media. Despite being warned by an SMU detective to stop, he allegedly continued his attempts for two days. Smith has a history of similar offenses over the past three years, including stalking and online impersonation. After completing his prison term earlier this year, he was accused of harassing another student while on bond. Police are carefully gathering evidence due to First Amendment protections regarding online contacts, and Smith is prohibited from campus access.

Police said the 23-year-old man has targeted several female students since 2021 and has been arrested 8 times. He was released earlier this year but police say he’s back at it.

Maypearl ISD reopens primary school without fire chief's approval
SUMMARY: Maypearl ISD reopened its primary school without the fire chief’s approval, sparking concern among parents following air quality issues. The school shut down last week due to elevated carbon dioxide levels, which can indicate poor ventilation. After a week off, students returned, but safety remains a concern. Parents raised issues during a crowded school board meeting, expressing worries about their children’s health. While the superintendent reported that CO2 levels were not rapidly increasing and detailed monitoring protocols, some parents felt the district had delayed action. The fire chief stated he had not approved the reopening and was unaware it was happening.

Superintendent Ritchie Bowling told parents that while there’s no documentation to assure parents the school is safe, he says he’s had assurance from inspectors and HVAC professionals. Meanwhile, the fire chief says he never signed off on the school re-opening.

Texas House committee discusses education savings account bill for nearly 21 hours
SUMMARY: The Texas House Committee on Public Education adjourned after over 20 hours of discussion regarding House Bill 3 (HB 3), which proposes an education savings account for private education. Although most testimony was against the bill, it remains pending. Of 734 registered opinions, 502 were opposed. Critics, including Rep. Brad Buckley, warned HB 3 could lead to layoffs and hurt community schools. Supporters argued it would help marginalized families access better education options. Tensions rose as accusations were made against committee member Rep. Alan Schoolcraft regarding campaign funding, with disputes over credibility and the bill’s language raising concerns for parents’ recourse.
