20 Mississippi counties placed under burn ban
SUMMARY: As of Wednesday, August 16, twenty counties in Mississippi have been placed under burn bans due to the high number of wildfires. Since the beginning of August, there have been almost 180 wildfires in the state. Forestry officials are urging the public to be aware of the dry conditions and to pay attention to burn bans in their area. Counties that are not under a burn ban are being warned to be cautious with ignition sources. If someone starts a fire during a burn ban, they could face a fine of up to $500.
