An appeals court wonโt revive Brett Favreโs defamation lawsuit against Shannon Sharpe
SUMMARY: A federal appeals court has upheld the dismissal of Brett Favre’s defamation lawsuit against Shannon Sharpe, stemming from comments made during a Fox Sports show regarding the Mississippi welfare scandal. In 2022, Sharpe criticized Favre for accepting $1.1 million in speaking fees intended for a volleyball arena at his alma mater, highlighting the misuse of welfare funds. The court ruled that Sharpe’s remarks were protected opinions based on publicly available facts, reinforcing the idea that he had the right to express harsh views on the scandal. Favre had returned the initial amount but still owed interest.
