1988 Reichhold Chemical Inc. Trial
SUMMARY: Reichold Chemicals officials are disappointed about having to pay over $3.5 million to plaintiffs in a case where a jury found the company responsible for economic loss and mental repercussions. They believe the evidence showed the plaintiffs were not cheated and did not deserve such a large settlement. The company argues that the site in question had been used for heavy industry for many years, with Reichold in operation there for less than 3 years. Plaintiffs’ lawyers are waiting for the jury to decide on punitive damages, which is expected to exceed the initial award. Jury deliberations on punitive damages are set to begin Friday morning.
