19-year-old arrested in connection with fatal shooting in Columbus
SUMMARY: Columbus Police arrested 19-year-old Jakody Moore for the murder of 16-year-old Marquez Carter Jr. following a shooting on September 28. The incident, which occurred in the 200 block of Constance Lane, left Carter dead at the scene and a 17-year-old injured. Moore faces additional charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is currently held at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. Police Chief Joseph Daughtry indicated that more arrests may follow and urged community members to assist in identifying a person of interest related to the case.

Mississippi quintuplets begin journey home after NICU careย
SUMMARY: The City of Laurel is welcoming four new residents, as three of the Meyers quintupletsโAllie Ray, Nova Mae, and Franklin Walkerโreturned home from the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s neonatal intensive care unit last week. Their sister, Saylor Kate, has been home since September 10. The second-born quintuplet, Carter James, remains in care. Parents Ashley and Tyler Meyers expressed excitement about having their babies home. The quintuplets, born July 5 via cesarian section, are growing well, with weights ranging from 5 to 7 pounds. The Meyers family includes two older sisters, Paisleigh and Westlynn.

Semi-truck load damages West Point bridge in Lowndes County.
SUMMARY: Traffic was significantly disrupted in Lowndes County, Mississippi, after an 18-wheeler carrying an excavator struck the Old West Point Road Bridge around 8:45 a.m. on October 1. McComb man sentenced to 85 years in prison in sexual assault case
SUMMARY: Billy Joe Bueto, a 63-year-old man from McComb, Mississippi, was sentenced to 85 years in prison for multiple sexual assault charges. He was convicted of one count of sexual battery, two counts of touching a helpless person for gratification, and three counts of filming someone without consent. The crimes occurred in June 2023, when deputies responded to reports of assault on Van Norman Curve Road. Evidence included videos of the assaults posted online. Bueto must serve the first 50 years without parole, following the jury’s verdict on September 27, 2024.
