16-year-old victim of fatal shooting in Columbus is identified
SUMMARY: A shooting in East Columbus, Mississippi, resulted in the death of 16-year-old Marquez Carter on September 28. The incident occurred around 3:23 p.m. on Constance Lane, where two individuals were shot—one aged 17, who was treated and released from the hospital, and Carter, who died at the scene. SUMMARY: On September 26, around 2:10 a.m., the Columbus Police Department responded to a vehicle burglary on 6th Street North. The victim identified a Black male suspect dressed in all black, who fled when approached by officers. With assistance from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, a juvenile was apprehended and charged with multiple counts of auto burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. He was taken to the Lowndes County Juvenile Detention Center.
