15th project funded by Hattiesburg 1 percent sales tax unveiled Friday
SUMMARY: In celebration of Park and Recreation Week, Hattiesburg leaders unveiled Safety Town, a new space for kids to ride bikes and scooters while learning road rules. Located at the Commons in downtown Hattiesburg, Safety Town is part of 15 projects completed since the 1% sales tax increase in 2019, which funds parks and USM Athletics. Over $8 million has been generated for park investments, supplemented by $3 million in additional grants. The initiative aims to revitalize neglected parks, enhancing community spaces. Parks and Rec Director Betsy RCA emphasizes the importance of green spaces in attracting families and fostering community spirit.
