SUMMARY: In the wake of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling easing restrictions on camping bans, over 100 cities have implemented laws prohibiting sleeping outdoors amidst rising homelessness. Advocates argue these measures exacerbate the issue, with cities like San Joaquin County enforcing strict regulations, including large fines and mandatory relocations for encampments. Although some jurisdictions are attempting to create temporary housing solutions, the lack of adequate shelter and affordable housing persists. Critics stress the need to address the root causes of homelessness, such as soaring housing costs, over punitive measures. Individuals like Rasheena McCord highlight the dire consequences of these bans on vulnerable populations.

SUMMARY: Montgomery County, one of Tennessee’s fastest-growing areas, faces significant traffic issues, particularly on Interstate 24, which has seen no expansion since its opening in 1976. County Commissioner David Shelton highlights the dramatic rise in traffic due to population growth, from 30,000 in Clarksville in 1976 to nearly 200,000 today. With frequent crashes and delays—583 in 2024 alone—Shelton and fellow commissioners plan to urge state lawmakers to prioritize expanding I-24 by adding lanes on both sides. They also intend to request that the widening of State Route 237 in Clarksville be expedited, emphasizing the urgent need for infrastructure improvements.

While Montgomery County remains one of the fastest growing areas in the state, leaders say the roads haven’t keep up.

SUMMARY: You have just four months left to obtain a Real ID, which complies with a federal security mandate for state-issued IDs necessary for boarding airplanes and accessing certain federal facilities. While a federal ID, such as a military ID, is sufficient for entering federal buildings, a Real ID is still required for domestic flights, although a valid passport is an alternative. The deadline for acquiring a Real ID is May 7th, and officials advise against waiting until the last minute to avoid potential delays. To obtain one in Tennessee, visit any Driver Services Center or County Clerk office with required documents.

Tennesseans have until May 7 to apply for their REAL ID.

SUMMARY: In-N-Out Burger plans to expand its presence, opening five new locations in California, Idaho, and Utah by 2025, while continuing to look into new sites in New Mexico, Washington, and Tennessee for future years. The chain maintains a slow growth strategy due to its commitment to quality, limiting store locations to areas close to its patty-making facilities. Tennessee will see its first In-N-Out in 2026, alongside a large venue on the Las Vegas Strip, with New Mexico set for its first location by 2027. Despite expansion, In-N-Out places a high priority on existing restaurant stability and safety.
