10/22 – Trey Tonnessen's “Living Room” Tuesday Night Forecast
SUMMARY: Good evening, South Mississippi! The weather is calm and pleasant along the Gulf Coast, with conditions expected to remain stable throughout the week. Tonight will be clear, with gentle breezes, creating a fall-like atmosphere. While an upper-level system brings rain to the Midwest, it won’t affect our tranquil forecast here. Expect only a slight increase in moisture and temperatures later in the week. Currently, the area is dry, leading to normal river levels and no flood concerns. While some western regions may experience record highs, our temperatures are comfortably in the mid to upper 60s. Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Lost Towns of Hancock County
SUMMARY: In Hancock County, communities like Bay St. Louis and Diamond Head are familiar, but five towns were displaced decades ago for the Stennis Space Center and its buffer zone. Established in 1961, Stennis required clearing nearly 140,000 acres, leading to the relocation of Santa Rosa, Westonia, Napoleon, Gainesville, and Logtown, impacting around 700 families. While some residents moved willingly, others resisted, exemplified by an elderly woman who insisted on moving her house. Despite the loss, many descendants now work at Stennis. A memorial event, “From Roots to Rockets,” is scheduled for November 2, honoring these lost communities and their families.

Pascagoula unveils plans for new city hall
SUMMARY: Pascagoula city officials are planning future projects to improve city operations, including a new city hall funded by over $10 million approved by Governor Tate Reeves. The $2 million, two-story building will replace the aging Joe D. Cole Jr. Municipal Building and consolidate city departments in one location, enhancing municipal services. Mayor Jay Willis emphasized the need for this new facility, noting the current building is inadequate for the city’s growth. In addition, a new substation is planned for the Chico and Mobile area to address local safety concerns. Construction on the city hall is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
