10/20 Highlights: Lawrence County v. Columbia

SUMMARY: In an exciting football match, Meridian claimed victory over Lawrence County 27-8. Quarterbacks on both teams, Columbia’s Calin Haney and Lawrence’s Kannan Cato, had decisive roles. The Wildcats kept up their undefeated streak, with Meridian’s Hill scoring a touchdown. Despite quarterback Kannan’s fake handoff and successful touchdown for Lawrence County, they missed the extra point. Columbia High School had a big first down near the 40-yard line but fell short when Lawrence County intercepted a pass towards Jeramiah Foxworth. The Wildcats held on to win at home.

Sheriff Ed Hawkin condemned the case as “one of the most disgusting” he has ever encountered, highlighting the betrayal of trust as foster parents are meant to nurture and protect children. The investigation began in August when the foster dad and the teen were reported missing; she was later found and disclosed the repeated sexual assaults during a forensic interview. The teen is now in custody of child protective services, which is struggling with a shortage of foster homes, exacerbated by such horrific incidents.

It’s one of the most disgusting cases the sheriff in Lowndes County said he has ever seen.

Crossroads Rib Shack location in Tupelo closing

Located near Malco Tupelo Commons Cinema Grill, the restaurant has offered delicious ribs, catfish, and chicken since 2011, with fried green tomatoes being a personal favorite of many. According to manager and partner Lori Herring, business has slowed down significantly at the Tupelo location this year, prompting the decision to close the establishment.
