1/17 – The Chief's “It's Way TOO COLD” Wednesday Morning Forecast
SUMMARY: The current weather in South Mississippi is extremely cold, with temperatures in the teens and low 20s, feeling even colder due to wind chill. The hard freeze warning is in effect until 9am. Despite some sunshine, temperatures will only reach a high of 45 degrees, which is still below seasonal values. The windchill will continue to play a factor in how cold it feels. The weather will warm up slightly over the next few days, with temperatures reaching close to 60 degrees tomorrow afternoon, but it will cool down significantly over the weekend, with highs in the mid-40s and overnight lows in the mid-20s. This cold air mass is affecting the entire nation, and there may be isolated rain tomorrow afternoon and night, but no thunderstorms are expected.

Davis Bayou dredging almost finished after years of complaints
SUMMARY: After almost 20 years of complaints from residents, the dredging project for Davis Bayou in Jackson County is nearing completion. The initiative, driven by homeowners since Hurricane Katrina, faced significant delays, with residents even funding permits since 2008. Despite frustrations, progress has finally been made, as a $690,000 contract was awarded to Breakwater Marine Construction in 2023, though it took over a year to start. Recent efforts have accelerated work, and as of now, the contractor is close to finishing the dredging, marking a long-awaited relief for local homeowners seeking better access to the water.
