06/17 Ryan's “Rainy Start” Monday Morning Forecast
SUMMARY: Good morning, Pine Belt! Currently, the weather is mild with some sunshine peeking through, though clouds will build up by afternoon, bringing potential heavy showers. South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel observed some wetness, indicating recent rain, while Walt Massie Ford in Columbia reported over 3/4 inch of rain. Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and high pressure to the east are contributing to cloud cover and potential rainfall. Expect heavy showers and possible thunderstorms this evening, with a low risk of severe weather. Today has a level two flash flood risk mainly in the southern areas. Temperatures will reach about 87°F. The week will remain cloudy with occasional stray showers, but the weather will clear up by the weekend, becoming sunny and hot with temperatures in the upper 90s.

CCID expansion goes into effect
SUMMARY: The expansion of the Capitol Complex Improvement District (CCID) in Jackson, effective today, includes changes to 911 call handling and police patrols. The expansion began on July 1, giving state officers more responsibilities in a larger portion of Jackson. Capitol Police now have primary responsibility for calls in the CCID, with the city's dispatch center routing 911 calls to them until the state's own center is operational. Both city and state agencies are establishing Memorandums of Understanding. They aim to maintain a four-minute response time for emergencies. The state is also finalizing its court system for handling CCID-related cases, which Hinds County currently manages. Further expansions and adjustments are anticipated.
Expect to see a larger law enforcement presence throughout Jackson
