04/07 Ryan’s “Starting to Clear” Monday Morning Forecast
SUMMARY: Good morning, South Mississippi! After two and a half weeks of gray skies, hazy conditions, and humidity, changes are finally coming. While some clouds and spotty showers may remain this morning, the weather will clear up throughout the day. Winds from the northwest are pushing the haziness out, though we may still see occasional showers, particularly around 9-10 AM. A weak front is moving through, bringing minimal rain and only slight cooling, with temperatures staying in the upper 70s. Expect a mostly sunny and beautiful week ahead, with clear skies and low humidity by Tuesday, leading to a perfect weekend.

Jackson County schools expand training for skilled trades
SUMMARY: Jackson County, Mississippi, is addressing a labor shortage by expanding career and technical education (CTE) programs in schools. The Jackson County Technology Center offers training in welding, construction, automotive, and new programs like pipe fitting, ship fitting, and aquaculture. These programs aim to bridge the gap between skilled workers and employers, including partnerships with industry leaders like Chevron. Students, such as Lane Nase, are gaining hands-on skills to meet the demands of high-need sectors. The district’s collaboration with industries ensures that students are equipped with the skills needed for future job opportunities.

According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Magnolia State has only 49 available workers for every 100 open jobs.

Auto industry on the coast preparing for tariffs
SUMMARY: President Trump announced a 90-day pause on tariffs, except for those related to China, impacting the auto industry along the Mississippi coast. This delay allows businesses time to prepare for the upcoming tariffs on imported goods from China, which could lower the costs of car and parts imports temporarily. The owner of Seal’s Tire and Auto Repair noted concerns over increased prices for tires and essential auto parts due to reliance on Asian production. While tariffs might raise prices and harm auto sales, they could also stimulate growth in U.S. domestic auto production, depending on manufacturers’ supply chain adjustments.
