‘Very large’ disturbance in Gulf of Mexico expected to become 1st tropical storm of the season
SUMMARY: A “very large” disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to become the first tropical storm of the season, potentially bringing up to 15 inches of rain, coastal flooding, and wind impacts to Texas and northeastern Mexico. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) forecasts tropical storm conditions along parts of the Texas coast and northeastern Mexico. The disturbance has an 80% chance of developing. Another area of showers and thunderstorms east of the Bahamas has a 20% chance of developing as it moves westward. Additionally, a disturbance in the southwestern Gulf may develop this weekend with a 30% chance.

Not as hot Thursday, isolated showers continue – Home – WCBI TV
SUMMARY: COLUMBUS, Mississippi (WCBI) – The intense heat takes a brief break on Thursday before returning for the weekend. Thursday will see variably cloudy skies and spotty showers due to weak low pressure over central Alabama, with highs in the upper 80s. By Friday, the heat returns with highs in the lower to middle 90s and heat indices over 100°, along with possible pop-up showers. The weekend brings more heat and humidity with highs in the mid-90s and heat indices up to 105°, along with isolated showers and potentially more storms by Sunday PM. Next week, the heat persists with highs nearing 100 degrees by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Rankin County woman sentenced for possessing, passing counterfeit money
SUMMARY: Mary Glassmire Sessums, 43, of Rankin County, Mississippi, was sentenced to 12 months and one day in federal prison, plus two years of supervised release, for possessing and passing counterfeit currency. She and Purvis Dustin Ward had been identified by authorities and residents for using counterfeit money at garage sales. They were arrested by Pelahatchie police, who found counterfeit currency in their vehicle. A search of Ward's home uncovered counterfeit currency, uncut sheets, printers, and other materials for producing fake money. Sessums pled guilty, while Ward was sentenced to 30 months in prison and three years of supervised release. The case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service and local law enforcement agencies.

Groundbreaking ceremonies mark start of construction for Chickasaw Heritage Center – Home – WCBI TV
