Two Mississippi players selected by New York Liberty in 2024 WNBA Draft
SUMMARY: Marquesha Davis from Ole Miss and Jessika Carter from Mississippi State have been drafted by the New York Liberty in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Davis, selected as the 11th overall pick, played guard and was pivotal in leading Ole Miss to three consecutive NCAA Tournaments. She had an average of 14 points and close to five rebounds per game in the last season. Carter, a center for Mississippi State and the current Gillom Trophy winner, was chosen in the second round with the 23rd pick. She recorded averages of 15 points and 10 rebounds per game. The 2024 WNBA season starts on May 14.

Southern Miss basketball arena to get $35 million facelift
SUMMARY: The Reed Green Coliseum at Southern Miss, operating since 1965, is set for a major $35 million renovation starting in May, with completion expected by early 2025. Athletics Director Jeremy McClain has announced upgrades including a new dome, roof, lobby with ticketing and fan shop, renovated concessions, new practice facility, and enhanced scoreboard. A new club lounge with concessions and restrooms will enhance the game day experience, along with other amenities like a new entry, premium seats, loading dock, pedestrian plaza, and scoreboards. The project, approved by Mississippi's Institutions of Higher Learning Board of Trustees, follows a 1% sales tax voted in by residents in 2019. Despite renovations, the USM basketball teams will continue playing in the facility.

Cleveland Central High School student locked up for stabbing peer on campus
