New laws go into effect July 1
SUMMARY: Starting Monday, the jurisdiction of the CCID is significantly expanding, encompassing more areas in Jackson, including Jackson State University. On July 1st of next year, it will further expand to parts of Northeast Jackson. Almost half of the laws passed by the state legislature this year take effect on July 1st, impacting law enforcement with pay scale changes and the creation of new felonies, including those related to machine gun conversion devices, sexual extortion, and motor vehicle theft. A new 60-day presumptive Medicaid eligibility for pregnant women is also introduced. Additionally, public education funding will switch to the Mississippi Student Funding Formula, providing base and additional funds per student.
More than 170 new laws go into effect July 1 in Mississippi.
