Starkville raises water and sewer rates by $3
SUMMARY: Starkville residents will face a $3 increase in water and sewer rates starting November 1st, raising the base rate from $6 to $9. Mayor Lyn Spru emphasizes that this increase will support crucial capital improvements at the wastewater treatment plant and a new water well, although it only partially addresses the city‘s estimated $40 million in needed infrastructure upgrades. Rising costs for equipment and labor contribute to the changes. The city, with some pipes over 80 years old, aims to improve water quality and service reliability, preventing issues like brown water and slow flow for residents.
Starkville residents will soon see a $3 increase on base rates of water and sewer.
