Starkville Police remind residents to stay alert as scam calls continue
SUMMARY: Newwood police report an increase in scam calls impersonating law enforcement, where callers threaten victims with summons, subpoenas, and warrants, offering the option to pay over the phone or surrender to police. Authorities warn that legitimate law enforcement and courts never request payment in this manner. Receiving such a call is a clear indication of a scam. If you encounter this type of call, do not provide any personal information; simply hang up and verify the legitimacy by contacting the agency the caller claims to represent.
The Starkville Police Department reports that complaints about scam calls are still coming in.
