Ridgeland restaurant closes after failing health inspection

SUMMARY: RIDGELAND, Miss. (WJTV) – The owner of Cock of the Walk, a restaurant in the area, voluntarily closed the establishment after failing a recent inspection. The Mississippi Department of Health (MSDH) rated the restaurant a “C” on June 18. Inspectors observed rodent droppings in dry storage, employees standing in wastewater, and uncovered food containers. Additionally, food contact surfaces were neither cleaned nor sanitized. The last documented infestation, involving cockroaches, was in January 2012. The owner has been given 10 days to address the health violations.

Gluckstadt police chief on deadly DUI crash investigation

SUMMARY: Mississippi's Gluckstadt chief addressed a tragic wrong-way DUI crash on Interstate 55 that killed Canton teacher Tyra Small- on June 22. Jordan Leah Sullivan of Louisville was released on a $250,000 bond. The crash, which left Small-Jackson's father and 20-month-old child hospitalized but recovering, occurred while Sullivan was allegedly intoxicated and driving southbound in northbound lanes. Sullivan, charged with aggravated DUI, could face 5-25 years in prison. The mourns Small-Jackson, a mother, as the community seeks justice. Canton man sentenced for selling fentanyl in Madison County

SUMMARY: A 24-year-old Canton man, Denarious Evans, was to 25 years in prison without parole for selling fentanyl. Surveillance by and Gluckstadt in August and November 2023 revealed multiple drug transactions between Evans and confidential informants. Evans had a history of convictions, an April 2024 conviction for firearm possession and three other felonies for various crimes. Madison and Rankin County District Attorney Bubba Bramlett emphasized the seriousness of fentanyl-related crimes and noted Evans' extensive criminal record as factors in the harsh sentence. Bramlett stressed the importance of deterring fentanyl sales to prevent fatal overdoses.
