PRCC Aviation Academy set to open in August

SUMMARY: Major improvements are coming for college in Hancock County with the near completion of the Pearl Community College Aviation and Aerospace Workforce Academy. Located near International Airport and Hancock High School, this 25,000 sq ft facility features classrooms, labs, an outdoor courtyard, and an 18,000 sq ft hangar with hands-on lab stations. Funded by the Department of Economic Administration, Coast Restoration funds, the BP Restore Act Grant, and local investments, the academy aims to comprehensive educational resources. A ribbon-cutting is for August 5th, with classes beginning mid-month.

The new facility will have academic courses, adult education, career and technical education programs, and workforce on-site.

Rebecca Karl named 2023 State Queen by TOPS

Work on Beachview Bridge paused to move water, sewer lines

SUMMARY: Much-needed repairs to the Beach View bridge in Park Estates are delayed until and sewer lines are moved. The bridge is currently suitable for cars and SUVs but not for large school buses and trucks. County road crews are ready to reinforce the bridge, but a private utility company must first relocate the attached water and sewer mains. County Supervisor Randy Bosar noted challenges due to the utility's recent change in ownership. The bridge will eventually be rebuilt as part of a widening plan for Gulf View Drive, with the first phase beginning soon. The construction contract may be awarded at Monday's board meeting.

Much-needed repairs to the bridge on Beachview Drive in Gulf Park Estates are on hold until water and sewer lines are moved.
