Residents protest the solar farm project
SUMMARY: This afternoon, Hinds County residents held a protest at the Hinds County Courthouse against the Soul City Solar Farm Project, which aims to develop a 4,000-6,500-acre solar farm to power over 90,000 homes. The project, recently approved, faces opposition from over 1,200 residents who claim inadequate public consultation and insufficient zoning regulations. Protesters, including Allison Lauderdale, criticized elected officials for their handling of the project. Conversely, Apex Clean Energy's Brian O'Shea highlighted the project's economic benefits, including $150 million in new local tax revenue and construction jobs.
