Louin marks one year since destructive EF-3 tornado
SUMMARY: Louin, Miss., marks one year since a destructive EF-3 tornado hit the town on June 19, 2022. Residents are slowly recovering with assistance from federal and local agencies. Many who lost their homes are moving into new ones. Volunteer Fire Chief Austin Wade credits local officials, including EMA Director Hudson Jenkins and Senator Juan Barnett, for their relentless efforts to secure aid. Despite significant progress, there are still remnants of debris and damage. Neighbor Brenda Moore expressed hope that most residents will be back in their homes soon. Jasper County Emergency Management reported that 14 homes were completely destroyed.

Gluckstadt police chief on deadly DUI crash investigation
SUMMARY: Mississippi's Gluckstadt police chief addressed a tragic wrong-way DUI crash on Interstate 55 that killed Canton teacher Tyra Small-Jackson on June 22. Suspect Jordan Leah Sullivan of Louisville was released on a $250,000 bond. Canton man sentenced for selling fentanyl in Madison County
SUMMARY: A 24-year-old Canton man, Denarious Evans, was sentenced to 25 years in prison without parole for selling fentanyl. Surveillance by Madison and Gluckstadt police in August and November 2023 revealed multiple drug transactions between Evans and confidential informants. Evans had a history of convictions, including an April 2024 conviction for firearm possession and three other felonies for various crimes. Madison and Rankin County District Attorney Bubba Bramlett emphasized the seriousness of fentanyl-related crimes and noted Evans' extensive criminal record as factors in the harsh sentence.
