Laurel turning to AmeriCorps to help with summer programs
SUMMARY: The City of Laurel is recruiting summer lifeguards who can earn pay and scholarship money. Laurel Parks and Recreation is preparing for activities through its AmeriCorps Laurel Plays program, offering opportunities for community service and education awards. The department is looking to hire five lifeguards for community pools and offers training. Lifeguards 16 and older can earn over $700 per month and an education award of nearly $1500 after completing 300 hours. AmeriCorps also funds environmental and recreation work programs in Laurel. The community pools in Laurel will open on Memorial Day weekend, and interested individuals can apply on the website.
