JTRAN union head responds after sickout
SUMMARY: The JTRAN union president, Charles Tornes, revealed that stress and exhaustion led to an apparent sickout in April. Employees have grievances with MV Transportation, the company managing them, including long hours, insufficient uniform allowances, and being written up for calling in sick. Tornes has tried to meet with Mayor Lumumba to discuss these issues. The city claims they only received one email from the union. Tornes stated that employees are overworked and underpaid, and hope to resolve their issues with the city and MV Transportation soon. The tool CLOY mentioned aims to provide safety and security while reducing the fear of crime.

SUMMARY: The Planning Committee will discuss the matter at Tuesday's City Council meeting. M-DOT is preparing for overnight roadwork, starting at 7:00 PM tonight and continuing through 6:00 AM until Thursday. Crews will close lanes on the I-55 bridges over Highway 51 and the CNIC Railroad in Madison County to perform a concrete overlay. This work is part of an ongoing effort to repair the bridges.

SUMMARY: A fire truck crash in Wiggins injured a firefighter, who was responding to a single-vehicle accident. Around midnight, the Wiggins Fire Department's engine rolled multiple times en route, trapping a firefighter underneath. The firefighter was rescued using the jaws of life and transported to a hospital, where she has been discharged and is expected to fully recover. The person involved in the initial single-vehicle accident was also freed and was uninjured. Fire Chief Steve Purvis provided this information.
