Hinds County residents appeal solar farm decision
SUMMARY: Residents of Hinds County gathered at the courthouse to oppose the Soul City Solar Utility-Scale Solar Farm project, which is set to occupy 4000-6500 acres and power over 90,000 homes. Over 1,200 people signed a petition against it, and protesters expressed their concerns at a rally. A key issue highlighted by resident Allison Lauderdale was the lack of due process, as no formal public hearing was held, only an informational meeting by Apex Clean Energy. The eight-page appeal also cited concerns about ad-valorem tax, road impacts from construction, and environmental effects. Officials have yet to respond.
