Hattiesburg accepts bid of nearly $7.7 million to replace residential water meters
SUMMARY: The City of Hattisburg will replace its outdated water meters under a $7.7 million project approved by the council. Installed over a decade ago, the current meters have become unreliable as their batteries fail, causing delays in billing. Previously, workers could read meters remotely from a vehicle, but now they must manually check each meter. The new technology will allow residents to monitor their water usage live via an app, offering real-time data and quicker billing processes. The project aims to modernize the system using cellular networks and is expected to take 9 to 12 months to complete.
