VA helps homeless veterans
SUMMARY: The main goal of an event hosted by the Salvation Army and the Sawnie Montgomery VA Medical Center in Mississippi is to end veteran homelessness. During this annual “Stand Down for Homelessness Veterans” event, many veterans learned about available resources, including housing, mental health, and medical care. The outreach is crucial since some veterans lack access to information through traditional media. Ronnie Travis, a Marine Corps veteran undergoing medical treatments, expressed gratitude for the support provided by the VA and emphasized the positive atmosphere and care offered to veterans. The medical center has successfully housed 202 homeless veterans this fiscal year.
