Covington County taxpayers to see higher taxes

SUMMARY: Covington County is facing increased taxes on homes, automobiles, and utilities. The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a 7.8 Mills increase in the ad valorem tax millage rate for the upcoming fiscal year. Homeowners with properties valued at $150,000 will see an increase of around $100 in taxes. This rise includes a 4.8 Mills adjustment for the County School District and an additional 1 Mill for general fund operations. Furthermore, garbage collection fees will increase by 2 Mills. The board has adopted a budget for the next fiscal year, which starts on October 1st, projecting nearly $21 million in revenue.
