Presidential debate is a hot topic
SUMMARY: In Atlanta, a historic debate is set to take place between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, marking the earliest general election matchup in history. Ahead of the debate, both candidates have launched aggressive TV ads targeting each other's fitness to serve and key issues such as the economy, crime, and abortion. For the first time, candidate microphones will be muted when it's not their turn to speak, and there will be no audience. This debate occurs before either candidate has formally accepted their party's nomination, potentially creating early voter impressions. Political analyst Marc Sandalow emphasizes the high stakes of this closely-polling election.

Former deputy public works director loses lawsuit

Carter claimed she was wrongfully terminated and cited First Amendment retaliation after a media interview during the 2022 water crisis. However, the jury found insufficient evidence to support her claims. Carter expressed disappointment with the verdict, accusing the city's leadership of unfair practices. City attorney Drew Martin expressed satisfaction with the jury's decision.

SUMMARY: We are in hurricane season, and there are two areas of interest in the tropics. One in the Caribbean has a low chance of developing due to wind shear; it's currently near the Central American coast. The second area, south and west of the Cabo Verde Islands, shows a higher potential for development over the next week due to favorable conditions. This system may move west and possibly turn northwest as it nears Cuba or Hispaniola, where warm waters could fuel its growth. Locally, an upper-level low is causing intermittent showers, with the possibility of more scattered showers through Friday. Temperatures are set to rise, reaching the 90s with heat index values over 100 by the weekend.
More showers Friday, but it'll start to heat up
