Cargo ship lost power and issued mayday before hitting Baltimore’s bridge, governor says
SUMMARY: A container ship lost power and crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, causing the bridge to collapse and vehicles and a construction crew to fall into the river. Rescuers are searching for survivors, with six people still missing. The ship issued a mayday call before the crash, enabling authorities to limit traffic on the bridge. The collapse will cause logistical issues, shutting down ship traffic at the Port of Baltimore and causing traffic delays. The vessel was owned by Grace Ocean Private Ltd and was headed to Sri Lanka. The FBI is on the scene, but there is no evidence of terrorism.
