Burned building being torn down on Highway 18
SUMMARY: building at the time of the fire and both were able to escape safely. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the building has since been demolished due to the extent of the damage. The Metro Executive Center, which was a prominent structure next to the Chevron gas station, is now gone, leaving only a pile of debris in its place. Despite the loss of the building, the tenants were unharmed and no other injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Medical center honors its volunteers Thursday

Fatal tractor-trailer accident claims life, ties up traffic
SUMMARY: An 18-wheeler crash on Interstate 59 South near the Evelyn Gandy exit has caused major delays, with one lane closed as emergency crews respond. The driver of the 18-wheeler, identified as 21-year-old Khalil Griffith, died in the crash. The North Forest volunteer fire department responded to the scene where smoke was seen coming out of the cab of the truck. Traffic has been stalled for hours as crews work to clear the scene. Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash, which happened around 7:00 a.m. near Monroe Road.
