Amateur ham radio operators prepare for emergencies with field day
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Coast Amateur Radio Association is prepared for emergencies when phone service is unavailable. On Saturday, members practiced setting up and communicating during Field Day, aiming to develop relationships for use during emergencies, like hurricanes. Ham radio is essential in such events; for instance, during Katrina, people struggled with cell phones, whereas ham radios offered reliable communication. Members contacted operators as far as Oregon. While crucial in emergencies, ham radio is also a fun hobby, allowing enthusiasts to communicate globally without phones, using radio frequencies. The event highlights both the practical and enjoyable sides of ham radio.
On Saturday, members of the MCARA practiced setting up and making communications as part of a field day.

Aiden Boudro wins Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year

Memorial’s largest class of new physicians honored at White Coat Ceremonya
SUMMARY: Memorial Hospital held its white coat ceremony at the Hancock Whitney Tower in downtown Gulfport, distributing 20 robes to new residents in internal medicine and family medicine. Nine newly graduated Family Medicine doctors are staying local. The program aims to increase the number of physicians in the community. One local resident, born at Gulfport Memorial, expressed pride in serving the community. Memorial hosts the only civilian residency on the Gulf Coast, currently with 46 residents in its program. The event highlights the hospital's ongoing efforts to build a legacy of medical service in the area.
Memorial Graduate Medical Education hosted the 2024 White Coat Ceremony for its largest class to date.
