AE Wood Coliseum to host state volleyball finals
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Braves are hosting the Birmingham Barons in Pearl, with Game Two starting shortly and highlights to be shown at 10 PM. In high school sports, the state volleyball championships will return to the metro area this fall, being held at A.E. Wood Coliseum on Mississippi College’s campus. Mississippi College has previously hosted the M.A.I.S. finals. This marks the first metro hosting of the state finals since 2021, when they were at Clinton and Ridgeland High Schools. The 2022 finals were at MSU and last year’s were at Ole Miss.
The MHSAA state volleyball championships will be on the campus of Mississippi College this fall at the AE Wood Coliseum. It’s the first time since 2021 that the state volleyball finals will be in the metro area.

Clinton police investigate after man killed in shooting
SUMMARY: Clinton police are investigating a fatal shooting near Northside Drive and Briers Drive. A man in his 30s was shot and died at the scene, according to the interim Hinds County coroner. Neighbors reported hearing gunfire before 10 a.m. and suspected a shootout between two people. During the incident, one vehicle crashed into a gas line near North Ridge Apartments, causing a gas leak. A resident was warned to evacuate for safety. Atmos Energy and the Clinton Fire Department addressed the leak. No arrests have been made so far in connection with the shooting.

Interview: Gumtree Museum to showcase anniversary artwork
SUMMARY: The Gumtree Museum of Art is celebrating its 40th anniversary by showcasing 40 works from its private collection, including photography, sculptures, paintings, drawings, and mixed media. These pieces have been gathered over four decades through donations, purchases, and exhibitions. Director Molly Nolan curated a diverse selection representing a variety of mediums and styles, from traditional landscapes to textile-based mixed media, featuring artists from Mississippi and around the globe. The exhibit runs throughout July until August 2, with a summer break during the first week of July. A reception with food and drinks is planned for July 11 to celebrate the milestone.

2025 Independence Celebration held at The Rez
SUMMARY: The 14th Annual Independence Day Celebration at the Barnett Reservoir, held each year on the last Saturday of June, combines music, food, and fun to usher in the 4th of July. The event was revived due to public demand, especially to bring back the popular fireworks display. Organized by the Barnett Reservoir Foundation, it has grown to include 15 to 20 food and dessert vendors, making it a family-friendly festival. The board emphasizes the reservoir as a valuable natural resource with parks, RV camping, fishing, boating, and picnicking. The celebration ends with a fireworks show lighting up the night.
