70-foot cockroach to be sunk into Gulf of Mexico to create reef
SUMMARY: A unique artificial reef will soon be sunk in the Gulf of Mexico, near Pascagoula, Mississippi. The reef is made from a 150-ton Mississippi River tugboat topped with a 70-ton welded steel cockroach, aiming to set a world record. Funded partially by Bay Pest Control, owner Bruno Millanes wanted the reef to be distinctive. The project, executed in partnership with Gulf Stream Marine, the Department of Marine Resources, and Mississippi Fishing Banks, aims to enhance the marine environment by providing habitat for various species. The reef will be submerged 20 miles south of Pascagoula, at a depth of 90 feet.
The 150-foot tug boat that the cockroach is welded to will be towed 20 miles south of Pascagoula and sunk 90 feet to the sea floor.

Aiden Boudro wins Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year

Gulfport School District begins summer maintenance routine, prepares for new school year
SUMMARY: The Gulfport School District has initiated summer maintenance ahead of the new academic year. Crews are repairing equipment, addressing unfinished roof work, and replacing 50 air conditioners at Gulfport High School. Chief Operations Officer Jack Whitman notes additional projects, including sewer work, new roof panels, and restroom renovations across other campuses. Extensive cleaning and flooring work are also in progress. Athletic Director Matt Walter announces the purchase of a 44-seat activity bus to accommodate larger teams for events and field trips. Plans are underway to acquire a second bus, enhancing resources for students throughout the year.
The Gulfport School District is beginning summer maintenance improvements before scholars and educators return to campus.

Bay St. Louis man sentenced to nearly 5 years for role in fentanyl trafficking conspiracy
SUMMARY: A St. Louis man, Colby Sims, has been sentenced to nearly five years in jail for drug trafficking. According to the Hancock Sheriff's Office, Sims was involved in selling fentanyl-laced pills. The investigation revealed that a car would leave a hotel in Bay St. Louis, drive into Louisiana, and return to the hotel to sell the drugs. Sims has been officially charged with drug trafficking.
According to officials, Sims contributed funds to buy 1000 fentanyl-laced pills to bring back from Louisiana for sale in Mississippi.
