Tropical Storm Beryl: Trey and Charlie 9:00 PM 6/28
SUMMARY: Meteorologists are closely monitoring tropical developments in the Atlantic, noting the formation of a potential tropical storm. Initially appearing as a cluster of thunderstorms near the Equator, it has evolved into a more organized, circular system resembling a tropical storm or hurricane. The National Hurricane Center has issued a cone of uncertainty, indicating a high likelihood of it developing into a hurricane within the next two days. The cone starts narrow, reflecting higher certainty in the short-term forecast, and widens over time due to increasing uncertainty. Continuous monitoring is essential as significant changes can occur before potential impacts on the Caribbean.
Tropical Storm Beryl: Trey and Charlie 9:00 PM 6/28.

USM Marine Aquaculture Center’s oyster farming boosts reef restoration efforts
SUMMARY: The University of Southern Mississippi's Marine Education Center is expanding due to its significant contributions to oyster production for both commercial and restoration purposes. With rising seafood demand and declining supply, institutions like this play a vital role. The center manages the full life cycle of oysters, from broodstock to larvae, nurturing them into dense clusters known as oyster reefs. Due to constant supply challenges, including natural disasters and oil spills, aquaculture has become essential. The center also trains industry professionals and students, exemplified by Alicia Armstead from Tuskegee University, who gains valuable experience in marine farming.
The demand for seafood is rising and over the years the supply has declined, leading institutions such as USM to help in ways many wouldn't imagine.

Hancock County homeowners blame flooding on county-approved development
SUMMARY: Recent heavy rain in Hancock County has homeowners worried about flooding exacerbated by new developments. Over two inches of rain fell in an hour, causing significant water accumulation on Capal Lama Drive. Residents, particularly the Fall family, report unprecedented water levels encroaching on their property. They blame developer David Dreer for altering natural water flow through his projects. However, Dreer insists all development adhered to county regulations. Hancock County Administrator Jimmy Ladner acknowledges the residents' concerns but confirms the developer's compliance with drainage plans. Efforts are ongoing to manage water drainage effectively in the affected areas.
Wednesday, WLOX News spoke to those homeowners, the developer, and the county administrator to get answers.
